Gastropods (Mollusca, Gastropoda) from the Eocene in the municipality of General Bravo of the Burgos Basin, Nuevo León, Mexico.

Abstract
In the outcrop known as Cerro de los Caracoles, located to the south of the General Bravo municipality in the Burgos Basin, state of Nuevo León, 132 specimens of gasteropods were collected and identified as representative of the following genera: Athleta¸ Architectonica, Latirus, Distorsio, Bernaya and Turritella. These specimens come from layers of sandy limestones and limestone shales, which have been interpreted as hardgrounds that were subsequently deposited in recent sediments. The lithology and fauna composition indicate that this outcrop represents the upper section of the Cook Mountain Formation (Eocene). An age of 40 Ma has been estimated for this formation, an age that coincides with the end of the effects of Laramide Orogeny in the Burgos Basin. Therefore it can be concluded that this outcrop may represent one of the first periods with absence of siliciclastic sedimentation by tectonic action in the basin.
