Paleontología Mexicana is a non-profit open access digital biannual publication. It was founded in 1955 by emeritus Dr. Gloria Alencaster Ybarra from the Geology Institute, UNAM. It is published in the last week of the months of June, and December, on Open Access.

It is aimed at researchers, academics, museologists, students, and people with an interest in palaeontology. The journal is keen on receiving original research manuscripts about systematics, phylogeny, evolution, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, paleogeography and taphonomy. All taxonomy groups (invertebrates, vertebrates, plants, microfossils and ichnofossils) are of the journal’s interest.

Its main objective is to publish original research articles about the fossil record of Mexico (the layout version must have four pages minimum). Short notes are also accepted (the layout version must have three pages maximum), as well as historical reviews of palaeontology in Mexico, and thesis results duly synthesized and adapted to the format of a research article. Other works from Latin America and Spain are of the journal’s interest. Occasionally, works from other parts of the world are accepted. The manuscripts may be in English or Spanish.

The arbitration system is a double-blind peer review carried out by specialists in the subjects. The decision of the judges will be final and will determine the acceptance or rejection of the proposals. The content of the manuscripts will be the responsibility of the authors.

The journal is edited by the Instituto de Geología of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. The editor-in-chief is Dr. Josep Anton Moreno Bedmar, and the technical editor is M. Sandra Ramos. Reservation of rights to exclusive use No. 04-2012-081311041800-203, ISSN (print): 0185-478X, ISSN (electronic): 2007-5189, ISSN-L: 0543-7652. http://www.geologia.unam.mx/igl/.
