Responsibilities or Behaviour of the Editorial Committee of Paleontología Mexicana

  • The Editorial Committee of Paleontología Mexicana makes public the norms to follow for the publication of articles in the journal.
  • It will apply the norms of the journal for the selection and publication of articles.
  • It will be responsible for the application of the editorial norms and the instructions for authors of each manuscript, as well as the scientific quality. 
  • It will ensure the fulfilment and respect of the processes of review from the revisers, whom will be specialists on the subjects addressed in the papers submitted in the journal. It will also guarantee the double-blind review, so the authors and revisers will remain anonymous.
  • Should a controversy arise during the evaluation of a manuscript, the Editorial Committee will analyse and mediate the discussion for a fair and peaceful resolution. 

Responsibilities or Behaviour of the Editor

  • The Editor will seek to improve the journal and maintain the highest academic and scientific standards possible. The Editor will be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed. 
  • The editor must evaluate the manuscripts and their intellectual content without distinction of gender, ethnic origin, nationality, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, race or the political philosophy of the authors. 
  • The Editor has the responsibility to inform the author about the phase of the editorial process in which the submitted manuscript is, as well as the resolutions of any dictum or controversy that may be generated during the different stages of the revision of the work. 
  • The decision of the Editor of accepting or rejecting a work for its publication will be based only on the importance of the article, its contribution to the scientific outlook, its originality, its clarity, the relevance of the manuscript to the journal and its application to the editorial norms of Paleontología Mexicana.
  • The Editor will give the necessary evaluation guidelines and criteria to the revisers for the evaluation of the works that are sent to them.
  • The Editor guarantees the confidentiality of the double-blind evaluation process of the journal, so the identity of the author will not be revealed to the reviser and vice versa.
  • The Editor will make fair and impartial decisions. He/She will ensure a fair and impartial double-blind revision process. 
  • The Editor, and any member of the Editorial Team of Paleotología Mexicana are committed to not disclosing any information from the submitted manuscript to any person that is not the corresponding author, revisers, potential revisers or other editorial advisers. Therefore, no one from the Editorial Team will take advantage of the original or unseen content submitted by the author for their own benefit, unless they have the explicit written authorization of the author. The Editor will also make sure the revisers do not take advantage of the research done by the author of the work. 

Responsibilities of the Authors

  • The authors will adhere to the editorial norms and instructions for authors of Paleontología Mexicana in order to submit a manuscript.
  • The authors will present a clear description of the work in which they will encompass its importance, the methodology they used, part of the data obtained, conclusions, and implications of the work. Describing the results of their work wrongly or intentionally inaccurate is considered unethical, and they will not be acceptable for their publication in the journal. 
  • Authors must declare whether Artificial Intelligence was used in the creation of the text, what it was used for, what parts the author made and what software or program was used.
  • When sending their work, the authors must guarantee the content of their manuscript is original. The development and obtainment of the resulting data must be known to all authors and must be obtained in an ethical and responsible manner. It will be counted as a non-original text when:
  1. The work submitted is in a revision or publication process in another journal in either the same or a different language. 
  2. The content of the work is in published reports.
  3. The text contains long fragments of an article that is already published. 

Should Paleontología Mexicana discover that the submitted manuscript has been submitted or published in another journal, or in another language, the author (s) will be banned from publishing in this journal. 

  • If the author uses information or fragments from other works, they must be cited correctly and given their corresponding credits; otherwise, it will be considered plagiarism and will be sanctioned by the journal with the immediate rejection of their work. 
  • If the author discovers any error or inaccuracy in the scientific content, he must inform the editorial committee as soon as possible to correct said error, trying not to disturb the editorial and publication times.
  • Any person who has contributed significantly to the work must be included by the author or main authors as part of the co-authors of the work. The authorship of the work will be for those who have contributed significantly to the project behind the manuscript. The author (s) should also ensure that the co-authors have revised the work, and that they have their consent for the publication of the manuscript.
  • If there is any conflict of interest or of financing of the work that influences its results or their interpretation, they must be disclosed by the author (s). If there is any source of financial support, it has to be mentioned.

Responsibilities of the Revisers

  • The revisers must state if they have the adequate academic criteria to revise a manuscript. They must also promptly inform the Editor if they will have the necessary time to execute the revision, and if they can deliver it in a timely manner. Were this not the case, they may suggest another person or colleague, who has the time and qualifications, to carry out this work.
  • The revisers will evaluate the work objectively and critically, so criticising the author of the work directly with no solid and constructive argument behind it will be inappropriate. 
  • Any information or ideas obtained from the revision of the document will not be used to obtain an advantage or personal benefits. 
  • Should the revisers find any problem regarding the ethical behaviour of the author, they will notify promptly to the Editorial Committee of Paleontología Mexicana about any information that may generate the rejection of the publication of the submitted work. 
  • The revisers should guarantee that the information and data evaluated remain confidential, and, if necessary, the consultation with other experts will need to obtain the written authorization of the Editor.
  • Should the revisers find a conflict of interest about a manuscript, they will notify the Editor and will not revise the manuscript. 
  • Revisers will have to adhere to the editorial times given by the chief editor.
