Abstract

This paper presents the results of the study of the large foraminifera in the limestone of the Palizada well no. 2, which was drilled in the State of Campeche by Petróleos Mexicanos and pierced between 98 and 1310 m deep.

In the limestone, three indicative groups of fauna can be distinguished: one from the Upper Eocene, another from the Oligocene and the third from the Lower Miocene.

This microfauna includes a species, probably new, belonging to the subgenus Lepidocyclina (Pliolepidina) from the Lower Miocene and perhaps also from the Upper Oligocene; in addition to five species that had not been reported previously in Mexico: Heterostegina panamensis, Lepidocyclina (Lepidocyclina) yurnagunensis, Helicolepdina nortoni, Asterocyclina minima, and Miogypsina (Miogypsina) antillea.
