Abstract

Ichnofossils represent a source of information for the interpretation of past environments. Their study must be executed with appropiate practices, attesting the quality of the information and the long-term conservation of the ichnofossils and their localities. Several Mexican case studies of ichnofossils produced by continental organisms are described to document the used field techniques, as well as the commonly used techniques of rescue are described. The legal protection of the ichnofossils in Mexico and some succesful cases of protected sites are referred.
