Paleobotany of Mexico's Jurassic

Abstract

The most abundant Mexican fossil flora is found in continental deposits of Jurassic age, which crop out mainly in the southeastern part of the country, where well developed floras existed during the Early and Middle Jurassic. Among the best preserved floras are the plants of northwestern Oaxaca. The regions in the north and south of Puebla and Veracruz, and in northeastern Guerrero also contain fossil plants, less abundant and not so well preserved. In this paper the geographic and stratigraphic information on Mexican Jurassic plants is integrated and updated, together with the analysis of floristic associations and their climatic implications.
