Cambrian Biostratigraphy in Mexico
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Cambrian in Mexico crops out only in the states of Sonora and Oaxaca, as isolated and sporadic sequences, but with a relatively well-preserved fossil biota. Recent studies in trilobite biostratigraphy of the Cambrian of Mexico show that the biostratigraphic column for this system in the state of Sonora is well represented, mainly from the Terreneuvian to the early Furongian, and comprising the pre-trilobite interval, and Fritzaspis Zone to the Elvinia Zone. In the state of Oaxaca only the Saukia Zone (Furongian) is known. This indicates that the late Cambrian (Furongian) corresponds to the least known part of the Cambrian in Mexico.
