New record of the Pleistocene horses Equus conversidens and E. mexicanus in San Luis Potosí, Mexico
Main Article Content
Abstract
Using several bone elements, we report the presence of two species of Pleistocene horses in Presita Blanca, San Luis Potosí Mexico. A lower second molar was assigned to Equusmexicanus, while a right proximal phalange, a right upper premolar 3-4 and right upper molar 1-2 were assigned to E.conversidens. The presence of both species in this locality increased the number of the Potosin localities where both taxa have been found. The coexistence of both species of Equus in Presita Blanca is explained by variations in the diet and habitat.
