Abstract

Doctor Ismael Ferrusquía Villafranca has worked at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) for 60 years and currently holds the highest levels of it as a researcher, likewise in the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI). In his professional career, he has received numerous recognitions including Fellow, John Simon Memorial Foundation, New York; Fellow, Geological Society of America; and the fact that his colleagues have dedicated three new taxa to him. In this work, his professional career is revealed from his beginnings as a researcher and teacher and through other aspects such as his role as the founder of SOMEXPAL or as a conscientious defender of the need to protect the Mexican paleontological heritage. The biographical sketch ends with a personal analysis of Dr. Ferrusquía and his vision of Vertebrate Paleontology in Mexico.
