Terrestrial gastropods from northeastern Mexico: paleogeographic considerations.
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this work, it was examined a review of the geographical distribution and origin of terrestrial gastropods of northeastern Mexico. The paleontological records of the gastropods of this region represent 6.9% of the species that have been described. Recent terrestrial gastropod species Praticolellaberlandieriana and Helicinachrysocheilachrysocheila have the largest known paleogeographic distribution in northeastern Mexico. The distribution of the Pleistocene-Holocene gastropods of Mexico includes seven families with fourteen species from Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, and Veracruz, states. However, thirteen families of fossil gastropods with Paleozoic records have been reported of the Upper Paleozoic to Miocene. The Spiraxidae family has been cited for the Paleocene of Europe and for the Holocene of the Caribbean region and Central America.
