Investigadoras del ámbar de Chiapas

Resumen
El ámbar de Chiapas se encuentra al sureste de México, en tres principales localidades: Simojovel, Totolapa y Estrella de Belén. Proviene de una resina fósil de origen vegetal asociada a una leguminosa extinta del género Hymenaea (Fabaceae). Los depósitos ambaríferos fechados en el Mioceno Temprano están asociados a un ambiente de zona de transición costera, parecida a un manglar. Desde la época prehispánica, diferentes culturas de Mesoamérica han explorado estas minas debido a la variedad de tonalidades y transparencia del ámbar, asimismo, preserva de manera excepcional inclusiones fósiles de microorganismos, plantas y animales. El estudio del ámbar chiapaneco es de gran importancia en la paleontología, historia y cultura de México. En este trabajo, presentamos una compilación de la participación y colaboración de las mujeres en la investigación científica del ámbar mexicano. Adicionalmente, mencionamos el avance desde la perspectiva femenina en el ámbito sociocultural en áreas como la minería, las artesanías, la joyería, el comercio, los usos y costumbres de los habitantes de la región norte de Chiapas.
